My style & approach

Turning your memories into art.

My approach is largely documentary. I give your day space to unfold, stepping in with direction when needed for portraits and family photos. I care about capturing what’s real, while also creating images that will stand the test of time.

My Process

Throughout your wedding day, I’m paying attention. I’m observing the rhythm of the room, the subtle shifts in energy, and the moments that happen just before and just after the big ones. My goal is to document the day as it actually feels, not just how it looks. Beforehand, we’ll talk through what kind of guidance you want—some couples prefer more direction and structure, others want space to move through the day naturally, and most fall somewhere in between. I love connecting before the wedding, whether that’s over the phone, a video chat, or in person if we can, because understanding who you are and what matters most helps me recognize the moments that will mean the most later. This is a collaboration: you bring your people, your energy, your story, and I bring experience, intuition, and an artful eye. Your gallery will include both color and black and white images, and the tone will reflect the energy of your day. Nothing forced—just honest moments, framed with care.

All of that preparation and presence leads here.

The real moments. The ones that might have passed quickly, but didn’t go unnoticed.

Think of this like opening a box of photographs years from now. The kind you keep tucked away and return to.

You can move these around. Rearrange them. This is how I see a wedding day — layered, lived-in, and full of beautiful, meaningful details.

  • I love working with both because they each bring something different to your story.

Digital allows me to move quickly and adapt to changing light and fast-paced moments. Film encourages me to slow down and be even more intentional. It has a softness and depth that feels timeless and tangible.

Using both gives you the best of both worlds — flexibility and precision, alongside texture and warmth. The result is a gallery that feels cohesive, artful, and true to your day.

  • Yes. I’m based in Central Florida, but I’m always open to traveling for weddings and sessions.

Whether it’s a nearby coastal town, a courthouse in another city, or a full destination weekend, I’m happy to build a custom collection that includes travel. Just tell me what you’re dreaming up.

  • Most weddings are photographed by me. I like being closely connected to what’s unfolding and personally documenting your day from start to finish.

That said, you can absolutely add a second photographer to any collection. I highly recommend it for larger weddings, when you’re getting ready in separate locations, or if you simply want the benefit of multiple perspectives throughout the day. A second photographer allows for more coverage, more angles, and more moments captured simultaneously.

If you choose not to add a second photographer, I may still bring an assistant depending on the scope of the day. They help with logistics behind the scenes — managing gear, switching out film rolls, keeping things running smoothly — so I can stay fully present and focused on you.

  • Start by filling out my inquiry form. From there, I’ll send over collection details and availability, and we’ll set up a call or meet if possible.

Once you’re ready to move forward, I’ll send a proposal with your contract and retainer invoice. Your date is officially secured once those are completed.

After that, we begin the fun part — planning, getting to know each other, and making sure everything feels intentional and seamless.

We are in love with our portraits and all of the pictures she captured throughout the day. I’m nervous in front of cameras but with Kayla it felt like I was with one of my best friends. She took extra care throughout the day to ease my anxieties and was truly a pleasure.

I would recommend Kayla to any other couples that want to live in the moment of their day, have the special non-rehearsed moments captured, and get pictures that feel authentically you. We also love film photography and Kayla made sure to get our favorite moments captured on film as well.

Could not recommend Kayla enough!

There are lots of great photographers out there, but Kayla is so special. Not just for her talent, but for the presence she brings to your day. She is exactly what everyone needs, and I promise she will capture your day like no one else!!
— Kelly & Luigi

If you asked anybody at our wedding how our photographer did, they would tell you that they couldn’t believe how many photos one person could take! They weren’t lying, because we had such a large and well detailed album that perfectly encapsulated our special day.

If you want somebody who will go above and beyond for your wedding day, someone who will make your voice feel heard, your vision captured, and leave your friends and family speechless when they see those photos, do yourself a favor and go with Kayla Surico. I PROMISE you won’t regret it!
— Alan & Annaliese

What I love most about Kayla is that she gets all the photos without it being too much- I have been at weddings where the photographers were in the way or took the bride and groom from the wedding for hours or just got very repetitive pictures. Kayla got the perfect shots, but quickly and effortlessly. I felt super confident and at ease that she would not only do her job but go above and beyond. I am super impressed with her photos, as are my family and friends. Her photos are fresh, fun and really captured the spirit of my day.
— Christina & Giancarlo

I do not have enough words for how amazing Kayla is and how she made all my dreams come true. While being an incredible artist, she is professional and helpful every step of the way when it comes to your wedding. All my wedding photos are more than I could’ve ever imagined for my wedding day.
— Claire & Andrew

It seems to me that for a moment so important in our lives, people’s perception of what they want out of their wedding photographer and what they actually end up getting are vastly different. Getting a “unique” set a photos that’s as special as our own relationships seems to be the goal - but more often than not many couples settle for the same generic “Wedding photography” style so dominate in our social media imagery today that really it creates the opposite experience. Kayla IS that unique eye, she IS the photographer you think of when you want something different, fresh, and special. She’s the real deal.
